Flossing

Flossing your teeth is just as important as brushing because it gets between your teeth where the toothbrush can't go. Use dental floss to get food and plaque - the stuff that gives you cavities - from between your teeth.

Here's how you can floss properly:

  • Floss once a day after brushing, either in the morning or at night.
  • Use whatever kind of floss you like. Wax floss is usually the easiest to use.
  • Break off about 1/2 a meter (a little less than an arm's length) of floss and wrap it around a finger on one hand. Wrap the other loose end around a finger on the other hand. Hold the floss tightly with your fingers.
  • Gently slide the floss between your teeth. Holding the floss against the side of each tooth, gently scrape up and down. As the floss gets dirty, wind it onto your finger and unwind more clean floss with the other.
  • Repeat the last step in each space between your teeth. Remember to get the backside of your last teeth!
